7th Annual Redbud Health Walk a "Blooming" Success

Nearly 400 people participated in the 7th Annual “Blooming with Good Health” Awareness Walk. The free event was held April 1st at The Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in Renfro Valley, KY. TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY), Mt. Vernon-Rockcastle County Tourism, The City of Mt. Vernon, Rockcastle Regional, Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, Renfro Valley Entertainment Center and the Christian Appalachian Project worked together to sponsor the event.

Participants walked along a predetermined path where they received health tips along the way. Read more »

TOUR SEKY Hosts Successful Spring Work Study Trip

TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) hosted a spring work study trip to Boone, North Carolina April 30th-May 2nd. Boone is located in the heart of North Carolina’s High Country and is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities. 

More than 30 people from communities throughout the state participated in the three day work shop. Attendees included Judge Executives, Mayors, and tourism professionals from across the region. Read more »

SOUTHERN AND EASTERN KENTUCKY TOURISM INDUSTRY SHOWS STRONG ECONOMIC GROWTH

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) is excited to announce the travel and tourism industry contributed $1.5 billion to Southern and Eastern Kentucky’s Economy in 2010, a 3.8% economic impact increase in from 2009. The economic impact of tourism in Kentucky amounted to $11.3 billion in 2010. The economic impact figure is a 4.8 percent increase from 2009. “We are pleased to see such growth in our 47 county region,” said Jeff Crowe, TOUR SEKY President/CEO. Read more »

MOUNTAIN PARKWAY TRAILS CORRIDOR RECEIVES FUNDING FOR REGIONAL DISPLAY CASES

Somerset, KY - TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) hosted its 10th annual tourism Forum December 6, 2010 at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, KY. The theme was “What’s Cooking at your Destination.”

The Mountain Parkway Trails Corridor which includes Estill, Lee, Magoffin, Owsley, Powell and Wolfe Counties was awarded funding to create regional display cases that will be located at Pioneer Village in Owsley County. Pioneer Village is located between two state parks and the display cases will house antique items that showcase the history of the corridor. Read more »

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) awarded the APEX Award to Susan Laws during its 10th Annual Tourism Forum December 6, 2010. Laws is the Executive Director of the Mt.Vernon-Rockcastle County Tourist Commission.

APEX stands for Achievement, Professionalism, Excellence, and Xtraordinary in tourism.
