HIKING AND BIKING TRAIL NOW OPEN FOR PUBLIC USE

Somerset, KY – More than 100 volunteers and community members turned out for the opening of the “Big South Fork Gateway Circuit of Trails” at Wayne County’s Memorial Park. A ribbon cutting, community hike and cookout were held at the park October 23, 2010. The event was free and participants received a walking stick, reusable water bottle and a pocket size bug spray to carry with them on the trail. “The Big South Fork Gateway Circuit of Trails” was funded in part by a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) received 5 awards in the 2010 Kentucky Tourism Council Traverse Awards for Excellence in Tourism Marketing competition. TOUR SEKY received its awards Tuesday October 19 during the Traverse Gala held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky as part of the 2010 Kentucky Tourism Industry Annual Conference. MORE THAN 400 PARTICIPATE IN FIRST EVER “DO IT IN THE DIRT” OFF ROAD ADVENTURE RIDE

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) is excited to announce more than 400 people participated in the first ever “Do it in the Dirt” Off Road Adventure Ride. The event was held October 9, 2010 at the Black Mountain Off Road Adventure Area in Harlan County, KY. The event was free and all participants received a free t-shirt, rain poncho and binoculars. “The Black Mountain Off Road Adventure Area has received national attention, but many right here at home aren’t aware of the park and its more than 7,000 acres of trails,” said Jeff Crowe, TOUR SEKY President/CEO. The free hike will be held rain or shine from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The first 300 participants will receive free gifts including a walking stick, re-useable water bottle and first aid kit. “The Big South Fork Gateway Circuit of Trails” is funded in part by a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). TOURISM INFORMATION AVAILABLE 24/7 AT LONDON VISITOR’S CENTER

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) presented a TOUR Mate System at the London-Laurel County Visitor’s Center earlier this month. The TOUR MATE is a self guided audio tour box located in the tourism information gazebo in front of the tourism office at 140 Faith Assembly Church Road in London, KY.

The box is powered by a hand crank and is weather proof. The box highlights popular Laurel County tourism attractions. “This box is a wonderful tool that will provide visitors with information outside of the tourism office,” said Jeff Crowe, TOUR SEKY President/CEO. Read more »

TOUR SEKY TOURS MORGAN COUNTY

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) staff visited tourism attractions in Morgan County earlier this month. Judge executive Tim Conley hosted Jeff Crowe, TOUR President/CEO and Maggie Bill, Community Outreach Specialist during the TOUR.

Crowe and Bill toured the Holbrook Brothers Sorghum Mill in West Liberty. The mill has been in business for more than 20 years and ships sorghum to customers across the nation. The Holbrook Brothers allow schools, locals and tourists the opportunity to tour the facility and learn about the sorghum making process and agritourism. Read more »

ENTERTAINMENT PAVILLION AND TOUR MATE NOW LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN FRENCHBURG

Jeff Crowe, TOUR President/CEO and Maggie Bill, Community Outreach Specialist, presented the Tour Mate to community leaders and volunteers earlier this month.

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky is proud to announce three communities in TOUR SEKY’s service area are featured in the October issue of Kentucky Monthly Magazine. Cumberland Gap, Berea and Cumberland Falls are featured in the article “10 Things That Make us Proud to be a Kentuckian”.

Cumberland Gap is first on the list. Located in Middlesboro, KY near the Tennessee and Virginia boarders, the Gap was the pioneer’s first doorway to the west. The Gap played a major role on the expansion of the west with more than 300,000 passing though the area. Read more »

JEFF CROWE RECOGNIZED BY STS BOARD

Somerset, KY – TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky’s (TOUR SEKY) CEO, Jeff Crowe, has been recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society’s (STS) Board of Directors for his outstanding contributions to the STS Board of Directors.

During the board meeting in Greenville, South Carolina last week, STS recognized members rotating off the STS board for their service to, not only STS, but to the entire travel and tourism industry throughout the 12 state region. Read more »
