TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) awarded the APEX Award to Becki Egnew October 15th during its 13th Annual Fall Tourism Forum. Egnew is the Passenger Operations Manager at Big South Fork Scenic Railway and is Vice President and COO of McCreary County Heritage Foundation, Inc.
APEX stands for Achievement, Professionalism, Excellence, and X-traordinary in tourism.Egnew was chosen for this award because of her tireless efforts to help rebuild parts of the historic Stearns community after a fire destroyed several buildings in 2012. Read more »
TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) held its 13th Annual Tourism Forum October 15, 2013 at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, KY. This year’s theme was “Unravel the Mystery of Tourism.”

TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) recognized Susan Laws, Mt. Vernon-Rockcastle County Tourist Commission CEO, for her dedication and service as 2012 & 2013 Chairperson of TOUR SEKY’s Board of Directors.
Maggie Bill, TOUR SEKY Programs Director, presented Ms. Laws with a gavel on October 15th during TOUR’s Annual Tourism Forum. Laws will remain on the Board of Directors as Immediate Past Chair. Read more »
The Friends of Boone Trace 1775 are planning the rededication of the Historical Hazel Patch Monument. The rededication ceremony will be held October 5th at the Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Sate Park in London, Kentucky at 1:00 pm. Several descendants of Daniel Boone will be on hand for the rededication along with re-enactors that will arrive at the event by way of the original Boone Trace that runs through the park.

TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) hosts a Redbud Trails Photography Contest each April in celebration of Redbud Month. All of the entries can now be viewed at The Center for Rural Development, 2292 S. HWY 27, Somerset, Kentucky.
The top 30 photos are on display in the lobby of The Center. The photos will remain on display through August 28, 2013. The entries were judged April 19, 2013 during the Redbud Garden Party in Middlesboro, KY. The top three photos will be used in 2014 Redbud Trails marketing. Read more »
TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) represented the region and its outdoor tourism initiatives during a recent trip to New York. TOUR SEKY President/CEO Jeff Crowe was one of seven (7) tourism officials from Kentucky that had meetings with national media representatives to showcase the Commonwealth.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to tell others about our state, especially the great things we have going on here in southern and eastern Kentucky,” said Crowe. “This trip allowed us the opportunity to display all we have to offer on a national level.” Read more »
TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) hosted a spring work study trip to Boone, North Carolina April 30th-May 2nd. Boone is located in the heart of North Carolina’s High Country and is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities.
More than 30 people from communities throughout the state participated in the three day work shop. Attendees included Judge Executives, Mayors, and tourism professionals from across the region. Read more »

The City of Barbourville will host a BBQ Cook-Off June 1st at Thompson Park. The event will start at 10:00 am. In addition to bragging rights, the Grand Champion will receive $500.
