Jane Todd Crawford: Her Story
The commeration of the historic operation performed (1809) by Danville's Dr. Ephraim McDowell on Green County's Jane Todd Crawford is celebrated each December 13th with a play in the Old Courthouse in Greensburg, Kentucky. Dr. McDowell removed a twenty-two and one-half pound ovarian tumor (without an anesthetic) from Mrs. Crawford. Mrs. Crawford lived for more than 30 years after the surgey.
